Topic: Flame tip rose Posted: December 16 2008 at 11:05pm |
Ok, I just had to post a picture of my new flame tip rbta. This is a few hours after it went into the tank. Hopefully it will darken up a little but the orange with yellow tips looks pretty cool I think. BTW, the actual color is waay more orange and yellow. The photos were taken without any actinic.

Ohhhhh I am so jealous. Those anemones are amazing. We bought one of these off of eBay about six months ago but it only lasted about a week in our tank. I think our tank still too new or it had been mishandled in capture/shipping.

I have been looking for one for a year. This one came up so I jumped on it. I was nervous(still am a bit) but this one was eating before it shipped and it puffed right up when it went in the tank. It was even expanding in the bucket as I was acclimating it. They said it was red with yellow tips but it appears bright orange in my tank (not pink like the typical rbta but more of a hunter orange). I hope it splits! I am going to just stuff it full of food and keep my fingers crossed.
The pics above really don't do it justice. We'll see how it does after a few days/weeks.
It looks insane under the actinic moon lights, much darker red/orange tentacles with brighter yellow tips. It is sucked back into the rockwork with only tenticles showing. REALLY cool.
I brought this in with a Blue Spot Jawfish that is BEAUTIFUL. I haven't seen it since I put it in the tank but it has been hard at work building its home. Sand is flying everywhere!

I think you are right on them needing to be handled properly. This one was quarantined and eating before it was posted for sale. They still have an orange one without the yellow tips if you are interested. I added the jawfish to get the free shipping as I wanted one anyway. I guess I'll have to update my avatar soon. I hope my stupid onyx clowns move into the nem soon and LEAVE MY ELEGANCE ALONE!

I love them too!!! But I would never put them in my tank. . .I don't like that they move on their own. . . I'll just admire yours!

Sweet Dave, I am excited for you. I will be up your way this Saturday, can I swing by and check out the tank. I will be there from 9 or 10 until around 2 or 3.

I have found that in a healthy tank, once they find a spot where the flow is just right, they stay put for a long time.

My experience with anemones echoes Mark's comments. But that first week or two when they're trying out every rock in the tank can be hell on your coral. If you know you want an anemone in your tank, it would probably be smart to add it before your rock is covered in corals so it can move around until it's comfortable without hurting others. I had a GBTA that sat in the same spot for years but I tried to add a nice RBTA to the same tank after it was filled with coral and I had to pull the RBTA out after a couple weeks 'cause I couldn't deal with the destruction...

Sure thing Jeremy! Just LMK when.
LOL, I have 6 baby Rod's onyx clowns hosting that one anemone. The photos above really don't do it justice. I need to take some more.

My experiences are the same as Marks. There is one spot in my tank that they really seem to like. I have had three rose and one green bubble tips and they all settle in and like the same spot. They will usually shift around an inch or two either way then stay put.
