Does anyone have and advice on building a canopy?  I'm planning on building one this weekend. 

I'm planning on building something pretty basic, my current plans are as follows.  I'm planning on using 1x8's for the front and sides and then a 2x2 for the back.  Then I'm going to use 1x4's on the inside to support it above the tank.  I'm not real sure what I'm going to use for the top (I'm going to HomeDepot on my way home from work to see what I can find).  For a finish I'm planning on using the same black semi-gloss latex paint I used for the stand.  I am going to paint both the inside and outside of the canopy to help protect it from wood rot... Do I need to use some type of lacquer on top of the paint?

Anyway, those are my ideas... Anyway thoughts?

I'm not sure if it will help but when I painted my canopy I sprayed it with a outdoor primer to help seal the wood and give added protection. I then painted mine black. I used 1x1's and built a frame that sits inside of my canopy to rest on the top of the tank and then I mounted the wood to that. I bought 2 sheets of the cabinet grade wood from home depot and they were like $25 per sheet or something like that. They turned out really nice and gave my canopy a pretty clean looking finish IMO.

Lyscer that doesn't look too bad.

You got cabinet grade wood, then?  Is that just over with the rest of the lumber?

Thanks. That was my first wood project. Yes I got it from home depot and it was in the lumber section
