They are awesome. Let me see if I can find a pic of one running.
However... super pricey. Even when you figure in the cost of ballasts and what not... just so dang pricey for a bulb.

Adam-
Thanks I knew it'd be you when I saw someone replied. $370 is very pricey. However, the fact that they don't need a ballast is rather impressive. I know some folks who are spending a lot on lighting for ballst, bulbs, reflectors, etc. Probably very close to this price.
I noticed they mentioned 175w mh's in the article about them. Are they comparable to a 175 watt or are these maybe even 400w caliber?

Very cool. So you just wire it directly to 120 VAC?
You could retro an existing MH setup in about 10 minutes!

I'm going to wait for the 12-15k range. Maybe they'll even come down in price by then

Yup! No need to change anything about your current retro or hood except your bulbs. From the looks of it, they have their own reflector and everything.

Hey guys, thanx for the interest in our LED light. I placed a short video out on the sites (and YouTube) to show it off inside the tank. The video on the CoralDynamics.com site is higher resolution than the YouTube version.
Thanks again.

I really like the idea, is there any talk that there will be 14k bulbs?

Steve - good to see you and welcome to the board. Please tell us more - will you be making 14 k or 20 k versions? Have they been a huge success?

Hey all, the interest has really been over whelming! Adam, we sold out of almost everything at MACNA this year (didn't bring anything live back with us!) So hang onto the GC...or use it when you purchase a bulb! :D
We have plans for 14k in the future, but really with just 20w of Normal Output FL Actinic it is almost too blue for my taste! Really! Also when adding blue to the bulb we have to up the wattage, adding wattage adds heat. Heat kills the LED's (shortens life span). Using the Cree LED's we get some of the crispest whites I have ever seen in LED's!
Adam, are you speaking at the ReefStock in October? I may be setting the bulbs up there on a tank...just have to work out some logistical issues.

CD, are you looking to make other bulbs that are close to 250w or even 400w?

So how about that PAR photo, Adam? This actually looks more promising than the others on the market. However, I'm a bit comfused: 1. No ballast, okay. How about power supply? LED's work on lower voltage DC power, right? 2. What about all the heat produced from all of those LED's- wouldn't it potentially shorten the LED life?

Chk4Tix- yes we are working toward higher wattage replacements.
Corey Price- The power supply is located within the bulb housing at the base near the mogul base. This way all you have to do is rewire your LED socket direct to the wall outlet.
The heat produced from the LED's is dissapated through our unique heatsink design. The junction temps are well below manufacturers recommended temps. Also we are using 3w LED's and underdriving them less wattage, less heat, better LED life.

Yes, I will be there! I'll be sure to check out your bulbs, and find something else to buy as well

So what about PAR??? I see the numbers on Coral Dynamic's website, but how does this compare with, say, an XM 10k, or a AB, or an Iwasaki? Could we get some PPFD numbers to collaborate with Sanjay's work on MH bulbs?

During MACNA, Chris from Nano-Customs.com was nice enough to loan us his Quantum PAR meter. Our measurments were taken at 14" from the table surface. Sanjay's site lists his readings are done at 18"
Our readings showed 90-95 ppfd at 14" (without water) At Sanjay's site the XM 10k on the M57 ballast (if I am reading the graphs correctly) show a ppfd of 62 at 18" (without water).
Our readings on the same meter with the sensor under 10-11" of water were in the 220-230 ppfd. These are the numbers on our site since we put the light over water for most of the show and it is what most people saw that came by the booth. I am updating the site with the "dry" numbers that will closer correspond to Sanjay's numbers.
