I turned my lights on and found this guy crawling around.  I was a Mountain Shadow one day when one of the guys brought one just like it in.  Randy mentioned they were bad for reef tanks.  Any one know if this is true?  What kind of crab is it?

I'd like to know as well... We just pulled one out of my friends 30 Gal, that has had a hard time keeping coral. I thought stuff was just dying from poor maintenance, but all his water tested fine.  Then the other day he claims this ate his Sebae anemone... We tore his whole tank apart, and finally found him tunneled inside a rock, it took us 20 mins to get him out of the rock.

He is now in my 37 Predator tank, and my two mean as hell Damsels have been trying to find a way to eat him.

Did you hear them say the term "Rock Crab"?
Rock crabs typically come in on uncured LR and as they grow larger their hunger causes them to eat anything and everything. Definitely coral and fish that they can catch.
There is an easy way to catch them. Simply place a piece of raw shrimp from the grocery store in a glass jar leaned up at about a 60 degree angle against the rock they may be living in or under. When they slide down into the glass to eat the shrimp they cannot crawl back out. They usually go out at night. You can often find their hiding place by looking around with a dim flashlight at night.

If mark is correct on it being a rock crab, you may want to get it the heck out of there ASAP!

I have two snails and two hermits that havent been killed by my trigger or damsels.... I will keep an eye on them, but in my tank, I think "the meanest organisms that I have ever come across" will be just fine.
