Topic: Are hydrometers useful? Posted: March 20 2009 at 10:02am |
I need to order a couple water test kits this morning and was wondering if a hydrometer is a good buy for $8 or so. When I mix SW I would use that to check my salinity and make sure it's on par with the tank, right?
I know I need the test kits and can get a hydrometer later, but it's just the shipping... ya know.
Advice?

That sounds like a regular retail price. I just bought another hydrometer at Bird World last week for $8 or so.
But YES, you must have one. You will certainly need it when mixing salt. I have a dozen of them, and four that are currently sitting next to my tank.

Sounds like you need hydrometer counseling, Adam. You keep one in your car... just in case?

The hydrometer (or refractometer) is more important then the test kits.

I believe I do (and salt water, and a heat pack, and an airpump, and a bucket, and a cooler, etc)

I ordered the Red Sea one - so now it's OK to let me know that Red Sea's one is the most useless one on the market. Hopefully it'll do.
Seriously, though, who makes your favorite?
