Soooo....

I bought a stand.  It came with the trim detatched - but when I went to attach it, it wasn't enough trim.  Contacted seller.  No response as to the rest of the trim.  Custom made stand and canopy.  I sanded it, stained it, ect.  There is money down the drain to tear off all of the trim, buy all new so it matches, and stain it all and put it back on.  Time and money down the drain.

Bought a pump.  Supposed to pump x gallons/hr.  Found out it pumps x divided by 4 gallons per hour.  AFTER I built my manifold, and then built ANOTHER MANIFOLD thinking maybe my 1" was why the flow wasn't getting any pressure.  There is money down the drain for the pump, a LOT of time, a LOT of fittings, ect.

So someone was going to come help me tomorrow.  Decided he was going to come tonight.  And his wife just called and b**ched me out for taking away from his family time.

Is it too late to just selll what I have dumped a small fortune into and get out of this hobby?   Because at this point it really isn't fun anymore.

Don't give up! Keep with it! We've all had tons of set backs with one tank or another. What help do you need to get it running? And what type of system are you wanting to run?

I won't say whose wife it was out of respect.  But if you have a problem with him coming over to help, you discuss that with HIM, not call and b**ch me out, you know?  All that is going to accomplish is upset me.

I can't let anyone else here.  I can't distinguish who has crazy wives.  I'm not getting anymore phone calls about being a home wrecker.  Sorry.

Midvale huh?  I can make it out there now and then.  And I don't have a crazy wife.

Tell you what, go on the reef tour, meet some cool people, and then you can decide whom to invite over for help.  With 200 members here you are going to find some crazies... but I'm guessing they number a small handful.

I'm not far away. I can help. I just called your phone and left a message.

There was a time when I was ready to throw in the towel. Here's a cute story about it: http://www.garf.org/ugly.html

Well, Jeff saw this and flipped out (who sold me my 40 breeder) and came over yesterday.  I had called in sick for work.  Not so much because I was sick, but because I was just...down.  Because of the tank, the surgery next week, life.  Just STUFF.

So he kidnapped me and took me everywhere.  To see a bunch of people's tanks so he could hear me say, "Oh...I would LOVE a frag of THAT!"  and "I think I want a purple tang, a potter's angel, and a mystery wrasse."  And each time he would say, "Then we have to fix your tank.

He dug up a pump he thinks will work.  There were a few little prep things that needed to be done, like a notch in the stand for a bulk head.  I didn't have the tools or the confidence in myself to do it.  To be honest I've been out of the hobby for awhile and when I was in beforeI was married.  I can plumb like you wouldn't believe, but certain things were my "husband's job."  I was the brains of the operation and probably know enough to do them myself, but it is a confidence issue.

Jeff was here until 11.  I need a few fittings to try out to pump, I'm going to go to Lowe's on my lunch break and get the goods.  We have one leaking bulkead that is just a slow drip into the sump that we did not have a big enough tool to tighten, so he will be back before long to fix it.

After Jeff left I started dragging buckets of sand and water to the street.  I live in an apartment; no hose.  So I start rinsing sand, a couple of pounds at a time.  I have about a 1/2" sand bed.  It is slow progress.  I washed some Utah rock that was given to me as well, which is now stacked on my bathroom floor.  More progress.

My step mom found in my storage unit my MH balllasts (which are almost brand new) my solenoid) completely new, still in box) and my Air Water Ice RO unit.  All been sitting in storage for about 3 years.  She complained about the shipping - but let me assure you that it will NOT break her and my father's bank account and I rolled my eyes.  She is shipping the lights and solenoid today, and the RO a few days after that.  Score.

If this pump works, well, I will feel like something is being accomplished.

I just spoke with ecook. I hadn't seen her last post yet. She relayed to me her appreciation for all the offers of help and especially the help from Jeff Morrill last night. Way to go Jeff. Thumbs Up

DO NOT offer to help me wash sand.  It must be late at night so the complex cannot yell at me for all the sand in the street.  It must be done with buckets carried from my bath tub.

If you offer to help, I will TOTALLY take you up on that.  What are you doing at like, 11pm, or 12am tonight?

You mean you don't just wash it directly in the bathtub like the rest of us?LOL

Actually, I bet you could find someone nearby with a home that would let you bring it over and wash it in their yard.  It would be way easier to carry a few buckets to the car and back than bucket after bucket of water from the apartment to the street.

I'm in West Jordan.  If you wanted to bring it here I'd be happy to help clean it out on the lawn.  Call me at 801-913-5634 or PM me if you are interested.  I could do any time today or even help tomorrow during the reef tour.

....no, but I got sick of it after like 30 or 40lbs and washed my Utah rock in the bathtub.  That was so bad.
