Info needed!!!

I really didn't have much improvement when I mesh modded my sedra 9000. the needle wheel pulled just as much air, and people say that it is hard on the pumps to do the mesh if you dont do it perfectly. i would personally skip doing the mesh mod. sedras are strong pumps, but aren't really known to pull a ton of air. you might consider a different pump if you need more air and bubbles.

Make sure you don't have anything stuck in the skimmer. Mine does that when I get a bit of cheato or something stuck in it. Looks like it's working but won't foam. I pull it out clean it and it works like a charm.

ya give it a good cleaning, and leave it alone for a couple days. often placing your hand in the tank will knock down the foaming for up to 24 hours. this is due to electrical currents and oils that are in our bodies and on our skin. mine usually drops for about an hour after i do any serious work in the tank with my hands.

If you want it modded (does a ton in my opinion) then I would be happy to help you do it. (except your in st.george) I have a g4 with the mesh,gate and rec mods done to it. Works 100% more efficient. I mesh modded my g3 on my other system and was amazed how much more it gets out. If you run ozone then you will end up replacing the mesh once a year. Well worth it in my opinion.

Is it possible that he just has a low bioload and his skimmer has caught up to the tank?

your g4 must have already been rockin to hard

I have only done a handful of mesh mods, but in my experience they have worked much much better using fishing line to tie the mesh on rather than zip ties.

I agree that it can offer amazing increases, many have stated this. I didn't have much luck with modding my sedra 9000. I honestly think that there are many pumps out there that the mesh mod gives greater success to. I had an experienced "mesh-modder" help me and the increase was nominal. I didn't see any changes in power consumption either, which I thought was the culprit for the minimal increase. I may have had too much load on the sedra, who knows. It just never performed quite like I wanted it to. And IMO, (my opinion) ASM skimmers are a little outdated and dont perform that well.
