I've got a few questions about sand sifting starfish. I've read that they are great to have and they mainly eat detritus but they also can eat bi-valves. I've got 5" Derassa clam on the sand... will the star eat that too?

I've had one in my tank for over 2 years and it's never messed with my clams.  He's great at getting around the tank and cleaning the sand.
