Ok so when I did my water change and changed over my filter sock I took the filter sock I had hanging in my shower to dry and put that one on the system all pretty normal up to this point and then it happened....When I turned my skimmer back on it started to bubble out of control even with the return on it lowered all the way within 5 minutes my entire sump looked like a kids bath tub. So heres my guess the sock hanging to dry somehow got some kind of soap on it which is now in my system and bubbles everytime I turn the skimmer on. I did a 10 gal water change and added lots of carbon and everything is doing good in the tank still but I still cant turn my skimmer on without it going crazy, any one have any ideas? Thanks

me personally, i would keep the skimmer on to get the bubbles out and remove as much as you can by hand.. you already did a water change and are using activated carbon, so both of those will help alot too. hope all goes well

I got alittle dish soap in my system once. Same thing, the skimmer went mad. Like you, I did a big water change, and the skimmer made a ton of foam for about 2 days and then everything went back to normal. I wouldnt worry too much about it.
Life is good....right?

To be safe, don't use soap or place the floss bag anywhere near where it can get soap on it. Best treatment is to wash it in the washing machine with chlorine bleach. A good rinse in the machine is good enough. It's not even necessary to let it dry.

Definitely let the skimmer do it's job then scoop out and dump the soapy bubbles as often as needed.

You are lucky it wasn't enough to kill anything. There have been horror stories.Ouch
