It looks pretty good. I would use a regular spiral CF light unless there is no room for one.

I envision the day when sunlight and supplemental LED's in a small, possibly clear casing will be the way I light my tanks.

That stuff is what I have been looking into lately. Thanks for the links.Smile

Below is a pic of the pink/blue PC's I used to light my Mangroves with DIY reflectors of mirrored aluminum from a place in SLC. Notice that the pink side and blue side together look white to the camera. The only way I can prove they really are pink and blue is to point to the 2nd light at the lower right side of the stand. Can you see the faint pink glow on the top and blue glow on the bottom tube? Look to the right of the end of the lamp against the backdrop of the reflectors back side. See it? Together they complete the spectrum giving a white light but the colors of the leaves and the wires and drain tubing do not get washed out like a plain white tube does.

I had these mangroves from 2004 to 2007. The pic was taken maybe 6 months after the tank was setup and by 2007 when I sold it all, the Mangroves were big bushy trees that had been pruned many times to keep them back from the light.

Mark,

Nice  looking mangrove plants. Are yo still growing them? I have three plants going right now. I wonder how much nutrient will they pull out.

Nothing currently.
Remember when we met at that Day Care place in WVC? Were you in the club then? Anyway, we had a guest speaker that told me Mangroves don't do anything, that they didn't grow much. I had a chance to leave and go home before the meeting so I brought back this Mangrove with hardly any leaves yet, but a pile of roots that stretched out more than a foot. I figured that was evidence that they do grow on both ends and do take up nutrients.

I sure miss the after meeting dinners at the South Seas.Hug

Another pic from a different angle. When a mnagrove gets too tall, cut if off a little above a leaf node where new branches should grow out of both sides.
