Topic: SALT anyone in LOGAN Posted: January 20 2011 at 3:59pm |
Okay, I hope it is okay to post this on this thread BUT I Have a situation...
MY LFS told me they would be getting in some Instant Ocean Salt mix for the last 2 weeks now and they still have not got any in.....I am planning on getting my tank this SUNDAY....I would like to have water made up ready to go to help with transfer ...ect... but without salt this might be a bit difficult.....does anyone in Logan have some I could buy....or I saw that my LFS has some CORAL LIFE salt mix.....heard this was not good stuff.....and currently the tank has been using the Instant Ocean so that is what I wanted to stick with????

I use Oceanic from Petsmart and quite like it. Instant Ocean is ok, but I've been happier with Oceanic and they usually have it in stock.

I also switched from instant ocean to oceanic, and like it a little more. My corals seem to be growing quicker now. Me switching my lighting at about the same time probably has something to do with it too though...

Seriously if you're planning to make water changes then it wouldn't hurt to use Coral Life this once.

It will be okay, whatever salt mix you use. Simply move about half of the LW(live water) from the tank at Jim's house to your house and when there do a little acclimation by swapping half the water in the transport containers for the freshly mixed + old LW. I would also call Steve Burton, there in Logan, to see what help he can be. He may have salt you can buy and his prices are better than the normal LFS. He is Burton Marine (tank maintenance) over to the left in the Local Fish Stores sidebar. I called him just the other day to make sure he was still available to our club hobbyists in Logan.

I have the better part of a bucket of the Instant Ocean - this stuff:
If you want to use what you need and then get me salt back when you get your bucket, I'm happy to help out.

vadryn I might take you up on that.....I am going to check tonight to see if they got any in yet.....I might wait until next Sunday to get my tank....since i have not built my sump yet! This will give me time to get salt, and some plumbing done before I get the tank!
I will let you know! Thanks.

If you decide to wait - you can order the salt online and I'll still give you a salt bucket.

I have used coral life, Instant Ocean, and Oceanic. All of them work fine. My preference is Oceanic. This is because i can buy a 200 gal mix that comes in a nice 9 gal sealed bucket. It also seems to dissolve quicker.

I thought those buckets are 6-7 gallon. I have a bunch now and they are very handy. Also, I use one of their small jugs to bring water into work.

WELL I ordered OCEANIC I figure since he has been using instant ocean Oceanic can provide different things that IO does not have......It arrived and I am planning on doing the move TOMORROW!!!! I am going to mix up some water to take for the move....I only have 2 dinky heaters so most likely will only be able to heat 2 tubs of water so I hope 30 extra gallons will be enough! Wish me luck!
