Topic: Vendor Rankings Posted: April 19 2005 at 5:52pm |
I think we need a place to post rankings and experiances we have had
with vendors (online and offline) possibly we could rank them on
things like: livestock quality, shipping time, price, service,
availibility, accuracy of claims, scams, ect.....
I think this would really be helpful (especially to newbies) to help people have a positive experiance reefing

I'm not opposed to it. Lets see what everyone else says. I'm not sure if it warrants the addition of another forum, or if it would fit in with the general topics.
But I'm listening.

I think that a new forum would be a bad idea. One man's junk is another man's treasure! I really don't want to see the bad comments about our local lfs's! I think everyone needs to make their own choices. If you want to see rankings about online stores r.c. has a topic just for that.

I agree with Jeff. This could cause a rift between LFS's and the club, when we've been making such great strides to maintain good relationships. One of the beauties of being a newbie in the hobby is to go to every store and see who has what and what you like and making your own decision based on preference. I don't really care, for example, if you like or dislike carmeled apples. I'd prefer to try them myself and make my own assumptions. Opinions do not matter!!! Lots of people have expressed gratitude or frustrations about different stores in the past and that, for the most part, has worked just fine.

Reef Central has most everything and more than our message board has, so I don't think we should make decisions based on that. And, I tend to disagree with Jamison too (that doesn't happen often). I like when people post their good and bad experiences with on-line and local vendors. It gives me an idea of those places that I will frequent and those that I will avoid.
I agree that learning for yourself is likely the best way to really know who / what you like, but it could be a costly mistake in this hobby.
As for adding a new forum - I think we can handle it in the forums we already have.

If you have an experience (good, bad, or ugly) and you feel the club could benifit, then just create a new topic. If you are looking for an opinion on an LFS close to you, then create a new topic.
I personally try to hit most of the LFS close to me at least twice a year. There are some places I feel more comfortable in, and it's those places I shop. I highly recommend this method as it gets me out and lets me form my own opinion.
As for online...well...I prefer to get things localy. I have occasionally shopped for things online, but I like the face to face interaction I have with my LFS. There seems to be more of a trust that way.
Just my wee thoughts.

I agree with Shane to disagree with me (he's right more often than not). I'd like to withdraw my previous statement and say that opinions do matter. (I was a little frustrated last night and that came out wrong) I have expressed my delights and frustrations about fish stores before on this board and hopefully that has helped someone. If you've had an experience that moves you to share it with others, this is the perfect place for it. My main concern is creating a new forum specifically for rating an LFS. It could potentially cause more harm than good. I would still encourage newbies to draw their own conclusions about stores and come here to find out if they're headed the right direction or not with their plans and costs before spending a lot of cash. Thanks for keeping me in check Shane!

I disagree with everyone simply because I didn't really read every word of every post. I simply skimmed them.
I don't think that a ranking is justified nor would it be beneficial IMO. If someone wants to know something about a LFS, just ask or do a search. It's all been said before.
The one thing that I do like about the setup is that it shows you which ones support the club and which ones don't. Support the one's who support us!
Jamison, you're wrong.

I definitely agree with Carl. The topic does seem useless after all, but in a totally beneficial kind of way that everyone will appreciate. I think I've now successfully accomplished being wrong 3 different times in one post. I'm on a roll.
