By the look of its mandibles, I'd say it eats worms and anything it can catch. Many of us or perhaps all of us probably have them but don't know it.
I love the cycle of life
Thanks for sharing your discovery.

I have one in my tank right now as well. I agree, it looks like a centipede. Mine was orangish brown. It does not like light, I'll try to find it in the night. What is it?

Looks like an Isopod. I've seen pics on RC before. Some of them can be nasty and para sitic to your fish. Not sure if that's it or not, but it looks alot like one.
Perhaps this link will help too.

Of course not, you did not have a fish under yours!
Has anyone ID'd it yet? I have been waiting/watching to find out what it is!

No, it's not a Chiton. Chiton have a total covering of segmented shell, like an armadillo. The pic below shows the typical position we find Chiton. The shell is on the other side, of course. This pic is from Seti007's tank. I love that tunnel it is leaving in the sand bed!
Anyone know the free swimming form of an isopod or how many of the different isopods actually attach to fish?
Wouldn't a cleaner shrimp take care of them when small?
