Topic: Red Centipeed What is it? Posted: February 07 2009 at 11:43am |
I found a 1 inch centapeed in my reef tank.  It's orange/red with many legs.  It looks cool, but is it?

Welcome allfishasop! It sounds like a bristleworm. They are beneficial scavengers; part of the clean up crew. Do a google image search and it will pull up several pics of these guys.

Welcome allfishasop!
Is this what it looked like? If so then it is a bristleworm and a good part of the clean up crew. Their bristles can be quite irritating so you don't want to touch them though.

GEEZ MIKE! True, They are/May be beneficial to your CUC, But I ALWAYS pull mine out. Everytime I move a rock I get stuck with about 100 Bristles and they hurt Like Hell.

I will try to get a picture next time it comes out.  I didn't get a great look at it.  I also have tons of little star fish.  They must be repoducing, because I haven't ever put any in the tank on purpose.  They look blue on top and are about the size of an eraser on a #2 pencil.  My friend Mark helped my get started (addicted) to reef hobbie.  I was actually content with fresh, but that game is borrowing compared to this.
I find watching the fish is great therapy for my ADD.  There is not enough action with my Fresh water tanks.ÂÂ

The little stars are likely Asterinas and look bluish because of the lights.

Welcome Eric. I didn't see your post until now. I had promised Donna that I would stay off the MB for a week. She claims that I spend too much time here. Yes I'm just a little obsessed. I'm embarrassed to say how many hours I spent today, catching up on what I missed. If you get stuck with bristles, dip them in vinegar to dissolve them.

So that little critter isn't going to do anything except multiply?  I'm ok with that.  I sure like all the star fish that are growing.  I have tons of them.  This does seem like a pretty good site.  Your going to have to start making new issue's of the Star.
