I am quite sure I have a snail, probably a larger one in my durso drain pipe.  This morning I got up to go to work.  I heard a different sound coming from the tank.  Looking closer i discovered that the amount of water falling into the sump was less than norm, and also the over flow section of the tank was at a higher level.  That is where part of the noise is coming from.  The other noise change is the difference in sound as the water falls to the sump.  I believe I have a plan of attack to remedy the problem.  I just want to see if you have any tricks or ideas that might prevent me from disassembling the drain.

Did you glue the durso into the bulkhead? If you just friction fit these in you can easily remove the standpipe and clear anything inside then replace.

No, thankfully I did not glue the fittings.  To prevent this from reoccurring, I am guessing that it will be OK to drill a hole through the entry point of the drain and install a plastic or nylon  piece of rod through the 2 holes, for lack of a better description.  This would make the entry point 50% smaller for something to pass through.

It might be simpler to simply tie a piece of mesh around the durso.

Problem solved.  You were correct. The bugger was caught in the bulkhead fitting.

Yes, that would also work, but that could easily get filled with crud and potentially cause the same problem.  I could even remedy that by keeping it clean.  I will experiment with both.

Thanks for you quick response

I have some mesh that is awesome on my drain.
It stops snails but lets all the water and crud pass as though the mesh wasn't there.
They make strainers that are excellent too.
