Hi, I have a 29 gallon biocube, and I am having some isues with my sand kicking up every where. I currently have a hydor 425 gph and a hydor 1150 gph. Is one 425 gph all that I need for my size of tank?

I think the 1150 might be too much. Can you adjust the direction so that they are both facing each other and diffusing that way. Are you using the 2 stock pumps in the back chamber as well. I have always had biocubes and have never used any thing but the rear chamber pumps
Blowing toward the front glass.I once tried a Jebao wp-10 on the lowest setting and it was like a cyclone in there. A lot of flow is a good thing but it can become too much. Try using just the 425. Is your cube an oceanic brand?

I modified the tank and removed the built in filter. I drilled holes in the back and place a sump underneath. So I don't have a lot of water flow from the return.

I am thinking that I will remove the 1150 and point the 450 towards the front of the glass. I'm hoping that's enough.

Just the 425 might give you dead spots though too. What does just the 1150 do? Have you tried that? What is the return pump your using?

Placing a high flow powerhead down low with the stream shooting almost vertically up to the center surface water is the best way to create good flow all around. No dead spots. NONE. The fast flow is less likely to mess up the sand (and there are nice easy ways to fix that too. I know 100's of tips for all this.)
The powerhead can then be hidden behind aquascaping making the tank look more natural. If the cord ends up being too short, a $2 extension cord helps it reach the power outlet.

The Hydor Koralia base socket can be notched so that the red post on the ball can slip into the notch and the thing can be angled more vertical. I do this all the time. It works awesome.

An amazing plus for having water shoot up to the surface is the energetic wave motion it creates at the surface and throughout the entire tank. This pic is an example from MarksReef Coral Farm, which everyone is invited to visit.
