So I have a red slime issue. I have had it before but added another pump to increase flow and it went away. I have had it now for about 6-weeks and cannot take it anymore. This is a 30-gal BioCube with the lights on for 10.5 hours a day. I feed about 1/8th of a frozen cube of food per day. All tank levels are good I just checked them today. The lights are about 3-months old. I don't think overfeeding or too much light is the problem. Any ideas what the problem is? If I treat the tank with red slime remover does that fix the problem or is the underlying problem still there? Thanks for your help and advice.

Have you tested your water levels? What were they?

Generally red slime is due to poor circulation and excess nutrients in the tank and it also feeds off of your lights.

Have you added more fish recently? What do you use for filtration? Refugium? Have you done water changes? What's your light cycle?

These are all things you have to look at. The thing I found most successful was cutting my light cycle down quite a bit from about 10 hours a day to about 2 hours until it was gone. I also cut my feedings down from daily feedings to only feeding about every 3-4 days until the problem was gone. Once it disappeared I slowly increased both. I still don't feed daily. About 4 or 5 times a week.

I also did the typical water change, add carbon and increased skimming but I found the above to be the most helpful. I know you said you don't think it's those problems, but feeding daily in a small tank is rarely the best thing for cyano.
