My Green Birdsnest is turning Black... Does anyone know what could be the problem?? I will post water levels in a minute... I did start to dose vodka on saturday at .5 mL and have since including this morning but only .5ml
I have never seen coral go black like that. I would definitely try to frag off some of the healthy stuff and move it to a different part of the tank. Maybe you could even take a frag to a friends house.
I would initially say that it was the vodka. Do you have a skimmer?
Try basting the coral with a turkey baster and see what happens.
Like Kevin said, it could be cyano. Carbon dosing and cyano pretty much go hand in hand. If you are going to dose a carbon source then expect some cyano once in a while.
I'd probably hold off on the vodka dosing for a bit. I can't really tell but it doesn't really look like cyano. Is it showing any dead spots? The only thing I've had look like that was my blue star polyp colony that showed up black then melted away...
Anyways, I'd hold off on the vodka and see if it comes back.
I would drink the Vodka and then look at the coral.
It looks like it might even be a dark sponge growth, Ive had some grow in thin film and be very dark and hard to blow off. (I would not put any frags in friends tank till you know what the cause is) Can you get a closer pic?
