I have had this ACAN coral for over a year, and it has grown significantly since I first got it, but recently it stopped opening up as much and now I can tell it is receding - can see some skeleton on it.

The rest of the tank and corals all seem fine, but we have had trouble introducing new fish lately and I have a hard time keeping the alkalinity up high enough...  Lighting is 1 MH plus a couple CFs..50g tank...

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help!! -Josh

Do you run carbon - and, if so, how much, in what type of reactor / filter, how often do you change it?

You have a good amount of soft corals in there, which may be releasing chemical irritants into the water and bothering the Acan colony.

I'd try a 10g water change and running some fresh carbon and see if things get better...

Just did a water test this morning, kind of surprised how low Ca and Mag was.. I will dose it back up a bit..

Alk: 8.0dkh
Mag: 1140ppm
Ca: 300ppm

Also, I do have a filter sock with carbon and phosban in it, but only change it every couple months.  I have been planning to get a forced reactor for carbon and phos at some point too, just haven't got to it yet.  I will try some fresh carbon, thanks!
