Topic: SPS middle of my tank? Posted: August 01 2010 at 12:07am |
U guys think I will be fine to have some SPS right smack in the middle of my tank? I am running out of room for positions at the highest parts of my rock, but have some great spots in the middle. I am running t5s and there seems to be mixed reviews on SPS and height, with a t5 setup. What is your guys experience? Also, you may say they will survive, but will they grow is most important to me.... Btw, 55 gallon, running 6X54 watt 48 inch fixture (I know, barely fits), individual reflectors, ATI and UVL bulbs mixed, fans on each ends near endcaps, around 3000 gph ....opinions?

Should be fine. What reflectors and what system are you running?
I have SPS on the bottom of my 40 gallon but I also have the ATI Sunpower over my tank.

Its a catalina fixture....so probably not up to your standards, but I think it works fairly well....I think they have a good rep for a middle of the line type fixture....there bulbs aren't great though and their units lack cooling (hence two fans i am running on both sides) but they have fairly decent german polished reflectors...

I have a catalina (i bet its exactly that same fixture.) And I have SPS about mid tank. Anything lower doesn't do great, but stays alive.

Is yours a 6 bulb fixture? I am hoping the extra 2 bulbs on my 55 will give me an extra boost for the sps lower in the tank. Also, what bulbs you running? That also makes a big difference, but curious! Thanks Spbeyond
