Anyone ever grow Spirulina Algae at home or in a refugium?  If so, how did it go?  Thanks.

never but i think it would be very, very invasive. i think its a type of cyano(red slime).

I was thinking that it would be just the opposite Ermm Hard to keep a culture going.
I believe it would not be possible or practical to grow Spirulina in a reef aquarium system. The nutrients needed for any single celled algae, including Spirulina are just not that abundant in a reef aquarium, or if they are abundant, the tank is in real trouble and will soon experience all the problems associated with high nutrient inputs. Ouch

Why do you ask? Are you looking for an easy way to feed single celled algae to your reef?

Hey Mark.  Yes, I was playing with the idea of culturing some for my reef fish since spirulina is very nutritious and well, feeding it fresh instead of frozen is the idea in mind.  And besides, algae is fun.  I think I enjoy algae just as much, if not more, than I do coral.
