Has anyone successfully kept a Harlequin shrimp and a sand sifting star fish in the same tank? I love my sand sifter but really dislike all of the asterina stars in my tank.  I know I would have to keep him well fed one the other stars are gone but I'm OK with that as long as it would leave my sand sifter alone.

Thoughts  anyone?

I tried that and it worked for awhile. Then one day I came home to see my harlequin on top of my sand sifter which was flipped upside down. Right next to it was a leg from a chocolate chip star I put in that morning.

I guess I could always move my sand sifter to my other tank until the Harlequin does his job and then switch them periodically to keep both tanks free of the pests?

If you get a sand sifter just make sure there is plenty of food for it to eat. How big is your tank? And what are the tank mates?

I've had the sand sifter for over a year.  The shrimp would be the new addition.

Asterina are usually not harlequin shrimp preferred  food. A sand sifting star will be lunch.

Other suggestions to control or remove the asterina?

I had hundreds of asterinas in my tank and have never seen another since I got the harlequin shrimp.

Mine controlled the asterinas very well however it also wiped out all of the little "micro brittles" which I wasn't too happy about. Since getting rid of it I still have yet to see an asterina.
