Topic: How To Catch a Reef Lobster!?? Posted: June 13 2010 at 6:23pm |
I have had this purple reef lobster in my tank for at least a year and a half now..I swear i wish I would have never bought that thing! They say there reef safe to an extent! They say they won't eat your fish if there bigger sized but if there small they will eat them.. Well this one has eaten a bunch of my fish 2 black percs, a yelllow mimic tang, anda scarlet shrimp...I've also lost a bunch of corals that are still a mystery where they went and how? And just last night I recieved a bunch of nice zoa's from a trade..I left them on the sand to acclimate for a couple days..I wake up today and most of them are gone-clean!Don't know foresure if it was him or not but I still want him out!
I've been trying to catch this guy for the past year now..With no luck..i tried the gatorade bottle trick, but he was so smart. i stayed watching the tank in the dark for hours then i left for at least 5 mins....Came back and the food was gone from the bottle!!lol
Anyone have any more ideas on what I can do? Also when i do catch this thing does anybody wanna come pick him up! They will probably do better in a bigger tank..And maybe just a bigger fish only tank! If not i will give him to my asian friend to eat it! lol He's been asking me to give it to him once i ever catch him...

Okay mark, he is yours as soon as I can get him..(I lost my phone..I'll try and call from someone else's)...I've never really been REAL serious about trying to catch him until now...
The other night I tried the empty bottle trick.waitied for the lights to go out then just had my tv on for some light!.I put a piece of uncooked shrimp and tied some string to the end, and i placed it close to his hole..He was already scoping the area out right after but just would not go for it yet..So while I'm waiting, my shrimp and all my crabs are interested too..So there causing all kinds of camotion at the front of the bottle...So i decide to give my shrimp a big enough piece so he can just go off for a long time...Well after a couple of hours he must of not ate the whole thing, Cause the lobster had the piece and I knew after that he wasn't gonna be interested in going in to get another piece anytime soon..And here it is like 3:30 in the morning...So I'm gonna try and do it again probably here tonight....I just gotta find away to keep my shrimp away,He's the only one that will not leave the bottle alone until he gets what he wants! lol
So how big is that crawdad trap?My clearance for sand area Is barely enough to fit the bottle...

I used a regular sized vitamin water! I poked some hole's everywhere, and tied a piece of string close to the mouth...My plan was for him to go in and as soon as I see he's in I was gonna pull the string, causing the bottle to be inverted up..And there he's trapped!!! lol if that doesn't work I was gonna cut the bottle in half and turn the mouth inside out and try it that way...
