Fosters and Smith is running a nice sale on Koralias right now and I am planning on getting some for the 180g tank I am building.

I was thinking 2 Koralia Magnum 6's or 7's for main flow, probably would keep on constant, facing opposite of each other.

I am also thinking of getting the new Evolution ones (2-3 of the 1050 or 1400's) to put against the back wall for additional flow, more turbulent (and definitely control on a wavemaker program.

That or go 4-5 1400's and just have throughout the tank (all controlled)?  Are the Magnum's too much flow?  I want really good flow but not rip flesh from LPS flow.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

So I just purchased a pair magnum 7's for my parents 225 gallon tank a few weeks ago. I put them as low as I could reach and pointed them up and towards each other on each side of the tank. When I turned them on they created whirlpools that almost reached the bottom of the tank. My not-so flow loving coral hated it. I ended up programing my AC Apex to cycle them one on while the other was off and vise versa each minute. Now they are working awesome! Fish and coral are loving it!

Do not underestimate the Magnums. They are powerful little suckers and they push a lot of water. I don't think Korilia is overestimating the flow rate.

You have had no issues controlling them?  I would love to alternate if possible but hear conflicting reports on how well they do with that.  Would you say for a 180 go 6's or 7's?

I think with the older Korilia's you can't run on a wave maker and people are still hung up on that. But I've read, from Hydor, that you can with the magnums. Now you can't adjust the speed but you can turn them on/off as many times as you like. I've been doing it for two weeks now and so far no problems.

If you're going to alternate go 7's but if you're just going to leave them on I'd go for 5's and do what you can to not point them directly at each other.

Thanks - I may try to alternate, on your tank are those the only two powerheads you have or are you using others?  I would like to use another 1 or 2 to mix things up, just not sure if that would be overkill.

evo 1400's are pretty dang strong... I can only run one at a time (wavemaker) too or it creates sandstorms
I asked the Lord for the blessing of Patience... he gave me 6 kids!
