I am trying to get my pH down to 6.2 and notice that it requires me to have the effluent bubble rate really high, like 3 bubbles per second. Is this normal? I have noticed that the more bubbles, the louder the pump gets and it gets me worried as I don't want to burn it out.
I have the drip rate around 40/min.

Any of you had to change the valve on the drip rate? Mine seems to not be super stable as I have to watch it daily to make sure it doesn't stop dripping. Im thinking about switching the cheap valve out for another and any ideas would be useful.

The sound you are hearing in the pump is just the C02 going by the impeller, its nothing to worry aboutSmile Are you controlling your CO2 from a ph controller or are you just manually doing it?

I just drip it into my pH test tube. I will eventually get a controller but might get a solo pH prove soon.

Is it normal to have that many bubbles to keep the pH that low? The media was in there when I bought and it looks like thick sand.I was thinking about getting ARM media so that I know exactly where I need to keep the pH where as right now it's just a rough guess.

A.R.M. makes a small grain media that almost looks like a thicker sand, are you sure thats not whats in there? I like to use the normal large grain media from A.R.M. I always kept my ph inside the reactor at 6.4 but I had it on a controller so I didn't pay to much attention to how much C02 was going in when the regulator was on. As long as you are keeping it at a pretty consistant 6.4-6.8 ph level you should be good.

Great to know. I will be switching out the media in a few months to the larger ARM media. I checked my Alk levels and they were really high so I'm thinking that the reactor is working. I've cut it back for a bit until the Alk drops down to around 9-10. It was around 15. I just added some new sand so I'm thinking that might have raised it so high all of the sudden.
