I thought this might be useful to some southern utahns, although this isn't exactly southern but more central.

I've found a place out west of Delta, in Millard county that has some old LBTR.   I can see if I can find the exact location or maybe a map for you guys, but its just out in the desert between milford and delta.  It's a little closer than the northern location.   My brother is the one that found it and therefore got me my rock, so I'm gonna talk to him and see where it was exactly

Have you got an update for this location by any chance?  I am very interested and I drive that route "sort-of" quite often.

Okay, here's exact directions.
If you're coming from the south - you must get off the freeway in Cedar City and take Hwy 130 (to get on that Hwy, take Exit 62, make a left at the light and stay on that road, it turns into Minersville Hwy, and then into 130).  You will drive on 130 North for about 30-40 minutes into Minersville, where the Hwy will T junction.  Make the left turn (Hwy 21 - right would take you to beaver)  and drive another 30 minutes to milford.  Drive through Milford (road becomes Hwy257) for about 40 minutes.

This sounds harder than it is.  Real directions are get off the freeway in Cedar, and drive straight for almost 1 hour and 45 minutes.  the road barely curves but only 4 times in that drive!

Description of the area:  There is an old extinct volcano (sugarloaf, or Pahvantte butte) off to the right (east).  It is way out there, but interesting to note.  To the left (west) there is a long flat topped hill.  It is 100% lava rock, as it is the lava flow from when sugarloaf was underneath lake bonneville.  Other than these three hills, it is flat and sagebrush all the way to the surrounding mountains.  Train tracks front the road on the east side also.

In this area there is only one hill that is on the east side of the road.  really close, maybe 200 yards from the road.  You have to cross the train tracks, but that's okay you can see down the tracks for about 200 miles in each direction from here.  I found my LBTR on the far side of the hill, about 3/4 the way up the slope.

Good luck, and good hunting!!!

However, coming from the north is a bit more difficult.  Coming south on I-15 take the second Nephi exit (this is the one with a Wendy's right off the freeway) Drive west until you cross main street (cool intersection with a flashing red light always!)  It's about 45 minutes to Delta from Nephi, just follow the road signs.  Coming into Delta you will drive past a Best Western and then a Hart's Gas Station.  turn Right onto main street.  Drive West on main street and go over the overpass.  Stay on this road, it will curve once or twice.  You will make a left turn to Deseret (onto Hwy 257) and it's about ten minutes to the hill.  Same description, just reverse the lefts and rights for the area.  Hill is still east of Hwy.

LBTR stands for Lake Bonneville Tufa Rock.  It is the same stuff that LR is, just a million or so years dry.
here's a thread that has pictures and will tell you all you need to know!
It includes the instructions for cleaning the rock and has pictures.  It also has valuable info about setting up a tank from scratch with minimal investment, and covers Oolithic sand, which is not on the hill near Delta :(

Randy

Do you have any Delta rock samples? I'd like to see if it would be worth the trip out there.

I do.  I've got it in my tank.  I collected it and got it in my tank in early July - give me a call, and I'll set up a time with you to come by.  I'll be in Vegas tomorrow, but Sunday or during the week is good for me.  I work days, so evenings are easiest, though my work is quite flexible.
