i JUST LOST MY Melanurus Wrasse tonight.. he was eating fine and was fat too. I went out and came back to feed the tank tonight and i found him at the bottom of the tank on his side. I immediately got him out of the tank and put him in the qt he couldn't stay upright so I held him in a net and gently moved him in front of the return pump. I tried to revive him... to no avail he finally flopped around and then quit breathing.... so sad I noticed something on his body it was a white blotch above his side fin.
Looks like something crushed him. That looks just like my jawfish that got pinned between two rocks when the aquascape shifted. If your rock is all the same then I have no idea. Sorry

I have heard if your sand bed is not deep enough and something startles them, they can dive in hitting the bottom of the tank causing serious harm/death.

am I seeing correctly that there appears to be a big bruise above his side fin? That looks to be more incriminating than the white spot. Looks like a crush mark to me as well... do you have anything big enough to pinch or bite him that wide? White mark could just be the tip of a claw piercing the side or the front teeth if a fish did it.
he is my second largest fish in my tank. the white spot I was referring to is the same as the bruise.I don't have a fish that could leave a mark that big. I do have 8 anemones that could have stung him, but that's about it. If some of the rock moved and pinched him that could explain it though
