Looking to get a couple of mechanical float valves for an ato. Wondering if you guys know a good and cheep place to pick them up? Don't want the solenoid type just the kind with a float that controls the valve. Thanks for any suggestions.

Grainger has really nice ones. They are all plastic with an adjustable arm. Grainger part number is 4DMD1

So does your R/O line just attach directly to the float? Sorry, I dont use an ATO so im kind of clueless. It just seems to me that if your R/O unit is hooked up under constant high pressure to the float, and somehow that little valve failed on that plastic piece, it would be major disaster...

Jeff- yes that is correct.  But it is so rare for a float to malfunction that just about everyone uses one.  It's a "must have" in my mind for large tanks.

I like the eshopps style, where it hands on a bracket.  I've got about 4 of these running on our tanks and they work great.  I much prefer it to drilling a hole in the sump.

Thanks Adam. I might hafta try this. Ive been doing top off at night with a diy kalk drip bottle, but my I cant keep my cal under 500 so Im not going to use kalk anymore. Does anyone think there  would be a problem with runnning a 1/4 plastic line from my laundry room where my RO unit is to my tank along the lower wall. It would be about a 60 foot run??

Nope that's what ro systems are good for.... the plastic float is along the same lines as your toilet valve, I know some people replace the floats every few years. Oh and fish-4-u has the esshops kind for like 20 bucks, I have gotten 2 from them

I run a pond version of a float valve on my sump. The water comes directly from my RO. I also run RO up to the kitchen sink for a water tap, and to the icemaker as well.

Nice find tcfab exactly what I was looking for. But one quick question for you does grainger sell to the public? I have only dealt with them on an industrial setting and if I remember correctly your name always had to be on the account to buy from them.

When I hook up RO to a float valve I also use an auto-shutoff unit. This turns off the source water to the RO unit when the pressure at the output side reaches about 12 psi. Makes the float valve last almost forever and eliminates the constant city pressure on the RO unit.Smile

It seems to me that these days the old boy network of wholesale, distributor vs retail is almost gone. Everyone sells to anyone, though the price may be different.

Swiftra I have this same float on my auto top off system and a couple things you need to modify are the metal set screw on the float has to go and use a nylon bolt and butterfly nut, 2nd is the metal tie that holds the water assembly together has to go as well, i used a plastic insulated wire to ditch the metal pin.  Just thought I would let you knowWink
