Well thanks to mother nature we lost power for close to 8 hours this morning. Luckily everything looks okay in the tanks. So I am now looking at power inverters. For those who have power inverters, what brand would you recommend as well as features? I know nothing about power inverters. I was thinking of getting either a 400 watt inverter to run my two mag drive pumps, or an 800 watt to run the pumps and heaters at the same time.

Personally, I think you'd be better off with a generator. Unless you build a large battery bank, it won't last too long.

If you leave the vehicle running, it should be able to keep producing enough electricity shouldn't it? I would much rather have a generator but the cheapest I have found is around 400 bucks. Whereas a power inverter costs 40 bucks.

OK. I thought you were going to set up a battery bank, not use a running car. If you don't mind letting a car run for that long, that would work fine.

Just a car battery or two or four connected together. You would normally keep these charged with a standalone battery charger, not operated off of your vehicle. Sort of like a big UPS (uninterruptible Power supply)

My power did the same thing. I just fired up the generator and went on with my day...... When I read these posts my first question is how much is your setup worth? Could you afford to replace all of the living organisms in your tank due to a power outage? A mag pump with an inverter on a deep cell battery will go quite a while. There are numerous options out there you just need to do some research and find what fits your budget.

for the 8 hour outage I was able to keep 5 pumps and 3 heaters running with my generator on my R.V. for 7 of the 8 hours ... I would go with a generator ...
