Perhaps this has already been done, but I would be interested in a "behind the scenes" tour of the Aquarium at the gateway.  Is there anyone that could arrange some kind of behind the sceens tour as well as question and answer session with whomever is over all the tanks?

Here is something I just cut and pasted from a pres meeting minutes...

Jake- possible addition of a beginners forum or nav bar link to glossary terms and how-to articles.

Adam- email the club to get reef tour participants.

Mark- contact TLP in regards to getting a members behind the scenes night.

Bruce/Jon- August meeting on water motion.

Coral Cutting- no outside frags, more auction stuff.

November- elections.

December- with the Christmas meeting, we will also have Heil presenting that night as he gives out all the TOTM awards.  We like the idea of going with plaques again.

So I would suggest checking with Mark to see how it is coming along.  Last year people were talking about us having more club family activities.  Lots of interest but few suggestions.  If you want things like this, I'd encourage everyone to keep posting them here in this forum.

Adam

Mark - I may be able to help in lining things up. I should have a good
enough connection to get us "backstage."

After that pres. mtg. I spoke with the Chief Aquarist of TLPA's Gail Benjamin Experience at the Gateway. He said that behind the scenes tours are no longer being allowed for groups. It became too much of a hassle for them. About that same time period, the General Manager told me that they do not have enough room to allow meetings for a group as large as ours.

I've been behind the displays several times and believe me, it's nothing special. Many of our tanks are more technical and more intricate than those tanks. Really.

Oh, man, rain on our parade....perhaps it is their simplicity that makes them complex!!....or not.

I would've been interested but sounds like it's not a possibility anymore. My wife and I already have annual passes, our daughter loves all things fish. She's too scared to touch the rays though : )

I know the staff doesn't like it, but I found that if you just throw your kid in there with the rays, they get used to it real quick....

Just kidding

My daughter still won't touch them either, my boys on the other hand can't keep their fingers off them.
