I need some help. Will a canister filter work as charcoal/phosphate reactor? I know they contain a pump which forces water thru the canister. Just a thought.

You bet they will. That's part of what they have been used for ever since they were developed eons ago. A HOB filter also makes a perfect AC and PO4 "Reactor" (a silly term, if you ask me).

Bob, that is basically what the two of mine are doing on the 30g and 15g.  When I upgrade to my 75g I will keep one of them just for that purpose.

I agree.

But, I bought a phosphate reactor and I have been alternating media between carbon and phosban. For the money, I wish I would have picked up a used canister filter.

I really like a Hot Magnum. They last forever, are easy to change and
replace media...

I have mine for detritus removal in my planted....I guess i could put some
actual media in it?
