Looks.  But some people don't like them, I've noticed the bigger the bowfront the more distortion you have when looking into the tank.  Though it does give you more a feeling of depth.  However they don't agree with cameras either.

I have a 46 gallon bowfront cichlid tank.  I really like how it looks, the tank "seems" bigger than it actually is.  It also acts as a magnifying glass.  I think a bowfront tank would be great for a salt water reef tank.  They are a bit more expensive than a regular tank though.  Mine was like $220 I think, where you can get a regular shaped 55 for $100.

I guess I'm just not impressed by them.  I don't like the distorted view...  all depends on prefrence then, eh?

I wear glasses (bifocals if you must know) and curved glass does not work for me at all

I am in the same boat you are Mike.  My glasses are graduated bifocals and the distortion drives me crazy.   You have to be a little more creative with your lighting also since the top is not rectangle or square.

I have never liked bowfront tanks.  For me it looks fine when just glancing at it, or from a distance, but when I really want to look it drives me nuts.
