I have a friend that has an Orange tree Gorgonia that he wants to frag, it has grown quite well.

What is the best way to do this, can I just break off the pieces I want to trim?

Should I prune it similiar to how I woudl prune a tree?

I am a bit timmid about pruning this baby.  Any suggestions will be helpfull.

I would start with just one peice. I have cut gorgonias with success. I would cut it were the branch comes off the base. I have a frag of this in my tank that is doing great! Is it the one with white polyps? If so I also recomend target feeding.

Typically you just cut off a branch. Most people recommend peeling the flesh away from the base of the cutting, that way you can glue to the inner calcified area.  I prefer to cut below a V in the branch, and hold the gorgonia down with a rubberband.  I haven't had much success with glueing them, but others have.

I had a purple ribbon that died in a freak accident (Heater blow up)  That I had fragged before, it sounds like I can do the same with this.

It is the one with the white polyps.  The guy I am going to get it from said the same.  I plan on feeding it brine and White snow.  Which I will give to it with a baster.

Thanks.

Agreeing with Adam, cut the flesh away from the end, find a small hole or drill a small hole in the rock and squirt a small dab of GEL superglue in the hole.

The inner woody stem can range in size down to just half the diameter of the gorgonia itself so choose an appropriate sized bit. Masonry bits are best but if you have an old dull ordinary steel bit it will work on most live rock. Can't hurt to try!

Gorgonia is very hardy. I cut it with my dedicated fragging scissors. The Photosynthetic Gorgonia below is ready to frag again if anyone wants some, CALL ME.

The food that Adam showed us and made at the meeting, when finely pulverized, makes good gorgonia food.

Speaking of gorgonians, I can't resist showing the absolutely gorgeous gorgonian collected by seti007 in Florida. It's the centerpiece of his 120(150?) He is asking, in another thread, if anyone wants to go with on his next trip, I think he said it's in February.
