Is it a good idea to frag an organ pipe coral and if so how does one go about doing it without killing the coral?

I have a white one that has grown larger than I like and I would like to frag it down to size.

I will only tell you how if I can have some. [IMG]smileys/smiley2.gif" align="middle" /> Pipe organ is a very cool coral that few keep. They are the easiest to frag too. Just break it. Each tube or "pipe" is its own seperate coral. They form terraces that seal the base off so that the inards are not exposed. I'm sure you might accidently lose a polyp or two. Tubipora musica is more of a scientific name.

You are more than welcome to trade/buy a frag once I actually go through with it. I must say I love the coral, it has just gotten too big.

The only thing I don't like about it is it seems to be a cyano magnet (I guess my whole tank is at this point). But it allows the cyano to grow on itself until it stops comming out and they I have to spend 15 minutes blowing it off.

What area do you live in? How big is the aquarium? If it's not too big I would suggest using chemi-clean or Slime-x. I normally wouldn't suggest using chemicals like this in the aquarium but I do swear by them. They work very well with no ill effects. If it is a big aquarium it would be really expensive to buy enough to dose your whole tank.

Im in Pleasant grove, and it is a 70 gallon aquarium.

My wife is getting me some chemi-clean for christmas -- do you reccomend the Slime-x over the chemi-clean? I can still take it back and get it exchanged.

The Ultralife Red Slime remover (Slime-x) seemed to rid my tank once and for all of red slime. The chemi-clean seems to only work for a period and then it may come back. This is just my two cents, and I'm not an official on it but with these two products I really do believe you pay for what you get.
