Hey all I got some peppermint shrimp last night, and couldn't stick around for very long so I acclimated them rather hastily. They seemed fine-- even ate a little bit of formula 1 pellets I dropped in there for them. Anyway, for those who have successfully added aiptasia eating peppermint shrimp, how long was it before they began eating the aiptasia? Have I shot myself in the foot by having them eat prepared foods? Is there any behaviour that will indicate that they're not going to last long? Is there any behaviour that will indicate that they'll thrive? ------------- Ils sont fous, ces Romains! |

in my experience peppermint shrip are very hardy. just wait and see if they start eating the aiptasia.

Give them a day or two and you'll begin to see the aiptasia population decrease.
They are quite cryptic and will mostly hide during the day. But at night, they are much bolder and HUNGRY!

| I never witnessed mine eating the aptasia but within a couple of days it disappeared so they did there job. Mine are also very wary and only appear at night. |

And speaking of peppermint shrimp..... I added a couple of them to my tank a week ago. I was hoping for some Aptasia control especially for those I can't reach with the Joe's Juice. After a two hour drip acclimation, I introduced them to the tank and saw them occasionally throughout the day.
Since then, I haven't seen a trace of them, nor do I see any change to the Aptasias.
 I look for them at night after tank lights are out, but with a room light still on. I don't know:
1. if they are dead,
2. if two is just not enough for a 200 gallon tank and I'll never see them,
3. if they are alive but feasting on all the aptasia I can't see
4. if they are alive but don't need the aptasia because of all the other yummy stuff around
5. something else I haven't thought of.
Maybe I need more shrimp, maybe I need a butterfly fish, maybe I need fill in the blank
Any ideas?

I never saw mine during the day until they got attacked. Every fish in the tank plus the skunk shrimp started picking at it. I got him out and put him in the sump and I haven't seen him since. I think he bit the big one because the aiptasia count in the sump hasn't changed. The few weeks they were in the display tank, I noticed several stalks of aiptasia gone. ------------- Ils sont fous, ces Romains! |

Have you checked the overflow or filter sock? When I had mine they would be in the filter sock every time I changed it.

Well, the little devils!!
I looked for them again last night. This time with lights completely out for an hour. I used a small LED pen light but didn't see anything. I don't have moon lights-- my wife asked if they were on the plan; Well, someday....someday....
So they can stay completely out-of-sight forever or even hop over the overflow, can they!?....talk about ungrateful!
 I don't have too much aptasia yet, maybe 6 stalks. I can get to most of them with Joes Juice, but at least one is well out of my reach. I was rather hoping they would simply have this mopped up for me in a week or so.
When it comes to peppermint shrimp, how many is too many for a kind-of-big tank, do you all think? ------------- John SLC (S. Jordan) 200 Gal Reef |

Mine were never really shy. I could see them most any time. I'm guessing they're in the basement.
