Does anyone know how to back flush the membrane on an ro unit? I know that you have 3 lines on the membrane. The drain, feedline, and product line. I am just not sure what to hook to what. Also does anyone recomend investing in an auto backflush unit.I belive they are like 75 dollars. ------------- Contact me for professional aquarium maintenance and localy grown coral frags. Soapy water will clean a bacteria fouled R.O. membrane, but otherwise, in my understanding in discussion with a master hobbyist that does R.O. for a living and created the Breeders Registry (see links page), there is nothing else to do but buy a new membrane.

I really dont mind paying to replace the membrain when it is needed. I was just reading about the backflushing kit. I have heard of flush kits that bypass the pressure reducer for the RO membrane to flush out any particulates that are on the RO filter. Like this one: http://www.spectrapure.com/St_kits_p2.htm - http://www.spectrapure.com/St_kits_p2.htm But they are only like 10 - 20 bucks so maybe this is not what you are talking about? |

Does anyone know what home RO membranes are made of? I know the industrial ones here at work are made from a polyamide material and backflushing is not practiced. But we do regenerate the membranes by washing and soaking them in an acidic solution. 1mariner7, do a search here for cold-sterile.
