At the March meeting members received free samples of Brine Shrimp Direct's Golden Pearls and/or a Low Temp Flake Food.
Tim Troy, BSD owner, just called me to ask how these products were working out for us. He especially wants to know what we think of the flake. If you don't mind, please post your opinions here. I've started feeding two sizes of Golden Pearls to my freshwater and saltwater fish and it is very well received. I didn't take any of the flake so I cannot comment on that. Tahitian Blend phytoplanton BSD has a fantastic phytoplankton product called Tahitian Blend that is so economical when compared to the live phyto available in the LFS. It's a blend of three alga and at $13.95 beats the socks off an equivalant amount of bottled live phyto. It would take at least 10 quart bottles to equal the amount of single-celled alga in a 125 ml bottle of Tahitian Blend. It is to be kept in the freezer, but has a glycerin component to keep it liquid and easily usable. Here is the link. I have been using the golden pearls in addition to blended frozen stuff. My Zoo's are multipying faster than ever, an encrusting gorgonian has doubled in size in a month (1" sq. to 2" sq.), and two frags of hydnophora have puffed up and are growing noticeably. seems like a winner to me! I've been using tahitian blend for a while now (when I remember to feed it...) and am happy with the way it has been working for me. The corals seem to eat it up so... ------------- Was that in there yesterday? Casper--WY windier than ? Down to a 20, soon to double or nothing |

| The flake is working out fine, it stays hard for a little while though. My clown and fire tail goby eat it up, but have a hard time chewing it because it stays hard for a while. The fish still eat it, so I say it's a good product. |

1) I could pick up a group order. 2) I got Golden Pearls size 100-200 microns. We put some in the food every day We feed once/day a combo of golden pearls, Garlic Flake, garlic, blended brine & seafood. We've been using a TINY portion (like the size of my pinky fingernail) of the Golden Pearls to target feed green nepthia, shrooms, xenia, anemone, gorgonia, 'poras. Even the Tiny portion goes a loooong way when you add some saltwater from your tank & target feed with a turkey baster. 3) Tell Brine Shrimp Direct that the Cleaner Shrimp adores the Golden Pearls, too! He says "Thank you!" 4) Garlic Flake stays pretty hard, like meterman said. We have to soak it in a little tub with the other food for about 5 minutes. I got a small tube of the rotifer size golden pearls (just a skosh bigger then cyclopeeze). It's easier to feed then cyclops just 'cause it doesn't have to be kept in the freezer. Fish ignore it corals eat it, it's great! I think my corals like cyclops a little better then golden pearls though. At least they open up a little more when I use cyclops. I've been feeding the Tahitian Blend phyto every day since that meeting. I don't know if it's making any difference or not, but it's easier to use then home grown phyto. I'm going on a Brigham to Salt Lake City aquarium tour/shopping spree. Anyone thats available after 2pm to show off there tank, let me know.I'd like to try to work it in. Specifically I will dropping by Brine shrimp Direct for some Tahitian Blend and GP's. Any one who wants me to pick up something, let me know. I've been buying all kinds of food from them them for several
years. ( spirulina flake, mysis flake, freeze dried krill, etc. I think all their foods are good quality and very inexpensive when compared to the rest. It's a very good company to support. JimL |

Renee, Nothing wrong with that. That is what I would recommend. I just believe Jake's philosophy that you really "try" to feed your corals garlic. So if you direct, or semi-direct feed then you shouldn't use garlic. Makes sense to me. Adam ------------- Come to a meeting, they�re fun! |

I have been using the 100-200 micron Golden Pearls as well. My corals seem to like it. My Sun Polyps open way up when I feed them to the tank. The Garlic Flake is readily taken by the fish at work, but not as greadily as the Omega One flake I feed them. This may not mean anything since the fish at home don't seem as excited about my homemade mixture as they do the Prime Reef I feed them. |
