So I went to Bird World and picked up a couple Ocellaris clowns about a week ago and yesterday grabbed an annenome. The clowns don't even seem mildly interested in it. Is there any trick to getting them to hoast in it? |

Some never do but even if they do it could take months.

| There is a million different ways to try to get the anemone to host them. The best thing is just time sometimes they will take to it in just hours and others months. Some people say that putting a picture of a clown in a anemone will make them but I have tryed it and it never worked for me. But the best thing is just give them time. |

I tried the clown fish in an anemone picture, the predator pictures....nothing worked for me. I threw a clown in there that already hosted an anemone..they followed. Then I took the clown out and left my two in there and they stayed!

Mine just did it after about 5 months or something. I was under the impression that they never would so it was a surprise. |

If there is nobody to show the way, then they have to be scared into it. If the pictures do not work then get in there and try to catch them or throw a real predator in there. Sometimes a different picture may do the job. In the end it doesn't really matter. When they are ready, they will go in. Tank raised clowns are really no different than wild caught. All my tank raised clowns, including those pictured below, Tomato, Ocellaris and Maroon, have eventually hosted, even though they had never seen an anemone in their entire young lives. Just give it time. My clowns paid no attention at all to the anemone for weeks (if not months, I have no concept of time). Then one day, one got curious what it was. It was great, I felt like a proud parent!
I tried the pictures of other clowns hosting, and of lionfish. It made no difference. Patience is everything! ------------- 90g Reef |
