I have some sort of Sarcophyton sp. that isn't attached to anything.  I've been wedging it into my live rock but that hasn't worked well.  It comes loose and hasn't attached itself.

How do I attach it to something or get it to attach itself?  And where (rock or substrate) should I put it?

On a related topic, you know how "super glue" works on TV (holds construction workers to steel beams by their hard hats).  I have never been able to get super glue to work on anything except my fingers.  But I digress (as usual).

I have made a discovery.  If you put Sarcophyton it too close to Corallimorphs  the "shrooms" get very sick.  More digression.

Thanks salty people!

you should try using rubber bands.  I think that they work best.

I don't like rubber band because they often cut through the flesh (although many people have good luck with them).  I recommend using bridal veil.

if you use the fat rubber bands they dont cut through as much.  if you use them on Xenia, the just kind of grow arround them.

I use rubber-bands on Xenia.  It adheres so quickly I rarely have a problem with them coming lose.

Sarcophytons are another story.  They take much longer to attach and will often split in two and become separated from the rock.

As I stated before.  Rubber-bands can work, but I have had much more success using bridal veil.

IME, I agree with Jake.  Rubber bands work great for xenia, but bridal veil is better for leathers.

I use a needle and fishing line to pierce the stalk and tie it around a rock (not too tight) works every time. Once it attaches just cut the line and slide it out.

I used a screen and a rubber band put the band around the bridal veil, hasn't gone wrong yet.

Try a plastic zip tie or two.  It holds like a rubber band, but doesn't cut.

Drive a long "cocktail toothpic" through the leather and find a hole(in the LR) that can be used to act as an anchor. Now place a gob of super glue on the showing pick and at the bottom of the sarco and set(hold there for about 20-30 seconds). I've tried a lot of ways, but with leathers, this and the thick band method are my preferred.

Is everyone recommending attaching the Sarcophyton to a rock?

Should I then put the rock with the attached Sarcophyton in the substrate on the bottom of the tank?

Or should I put the rock with the Sarcophyton attached on some live rock and up off the substrate?

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

Make it a larger rock because as the S grows it will need the support. A rubber band is the quickest way when it holds the Leather Coral in a hole or depression in the rock. People quickly recognise what it is as they begin to ask me what that red band is around the coral in the center
