I switched out my asm mini g with my asm g-1X and the intake tube was making a loud slurping noise. This was pretty much the last noisy thing on my tank so I needed to figure out a way to make this quiet. I thought I would try a muffler on the end and now my skimmer intake is completely silent and I don't think there is any restriction on the incoming airflow.

Materials:
  • 1 slip by slip 1.25" PVC coupling.
  • 2 1" insert caps

I drilled a hole in each end cap and stuck the intake in about 3" inches into one endcap and another short length of tube about 3" into the other end cap.

The tubes are offset like this:

 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

 ---------------

I don't know if anyone else has run intot this problem but hopefully someone will find it useful.

I already had a little hook on the inside of my stand and I zip tied the muffler to it.

I'm going to do this to my ASM G2 and the G1x!

BTW, do you really need the second tube or could an offset hole drilled into the top alone be enough?

Yeah I just went and tried removing the top smaller tube and it was even louder than the skimmer intake prior to adding the muffler.

LOL. Yeah they are both necessary. I guess I should have actually answered your question. Embarrassed
