Oh and congrats on the reactor!  Dialing it in will not be too fun, but after that you'll love it!

thanks man! i'm pretty psyched to get it up and going! how much does it cost to get a 5lb tank filled at airgas?

I hear you and you are welcome! With the environmental fee and such, I think it is right about at $20.00.

I'd suggest opening the yellow pages under "welding supplies" and maybe "beverage supplies" and maybe "fire extinguishers" and find the cheapest or closest

My brother fills his large paintball tank up for around $15 from paintball stores and it's a pretty good sized tank you might look under paintball and compare prices.

i went with a CR6X18 GEO Reactor ... i found a package that had everything included: 8 lbs. of ARM media, Co2 Regulator with Selenoid, T10 Co2 Tank, Maxi Jet 1200, and the SMS122 Milwaukee pH Controller.

the circulating pump is a EHEIM 1048 and the feed pump is a Maxi Jet 1200 ...

i have been running 2 maxi jets in my tank and they have always been pretty good to me ... sorry to hear you've had bad luck with them.

Corey,

Let me know how it goes. I've been having a heck of a time tuning mine. I finally started over yesterday.

I'm starting AGAIN with about 25 bpm / 20 ml/min flow rate. I'm trying to get my effluent pH to about 6.8 When I measured it last night it was 6.3!

If you are running a single stage reactor like me  try to run the effluent through your protein skimmer. I just stuck the effluent hose into the air intake of my skimmer. It hasn't affected the skimmer at all and my Ph has gone back up to 7.8-7.9 with my Ca at 420. Alk has also stabalized. Just a bit if my experience.

thanks carl. yes it is a sinle stae reactor and i'll give that a try it. i don't know how much of a problem i'll have w/ my Ph ... it tends to run pretty high anyway, so...

I'll report back as i go.

You guys are all crazy!

I'll fill that tank and only charge $2.00 a pound!

As far as that goes I'll fill anyones tanks for $2.00 apound. I get the co2 for around $1.50 a pound.

You need to give me a little lead time if you need something filled so that I can make sure to have the air.

Here is the trick to cheap CO2 buy it in bulk!

A 40 pound tank costs $25.00 to fill

A 25 pond tank costs $20.00 to fill

Tanks < 10 pounds cost right around $4 - $5 a pound to fill

Get it from me you will save a ton!

well .. i'm off and running!

30 bmp and 35ml pm effluent @ 7.1 ph. My CA is currently at 425, tank Ph is at 8.2, and my KH/Alk is at 8/2.86 (need to bring that up a bit). Thanks for the input everyone!

What's the alk on the reactor effluent?

effluent is about 20 dKH ... what should it be?

Posted By: jfinch
Date Posted: October 15 2004 at 3:19pm
Everything I read says 25 - 35 dKH, but I don't have a reactor so don't have any personal experience.  If your current setpoints are providing enough for your tank and your pH is ok, then I wouldn't worry about it.  I just asked 'cause I'm a curious guy .

well everything seems to be off to a good start  28 bmp and 36ml pm. My CA dropped just a touch to 400, tank Ph is at and average of 8.0, and my KH/Alk jumped up to 10.56/3.77.

is the alk to high?

It's not too high, imo, but don't use your reactor to increase your calcium.  Add turbo calcium to boost it (if you decide to).

Cool... That is exactly what i did. Just gave it a little bump w/ some turbo calcium.

My CA it dropped to 400 over 2 days again ... So, if everything is looking cool, except my CA still drops a little. Can I increase both my effluent and my CO2 to stabilize my CA at a higher level? Will this disolve the media a little faster? or???

Posted By: jfinch

Yup, I think that's the thing to do.  Increase both to keep the effluent dKH constant (but of more flow of course).

Everyone with reactors is sure quiet on this thread...
