I have a Red Sea Berlin Protein Skimmer that was being powered by a Rio 2600 pump in my sump and the pump has now died.

I currently have a 3/4" connection and about 3 feet of piping between my pump, which is submergeded in the sump, and the skimmer (flex pipe going up and over the edge of the sump to the skimmer).

According to the manual, the skimmer needs 500 GPH.

I have ordered a Mag 7 which has a 1/2 connection and is rated at 500 GPH at 3' of head and 650 at 1', but is currently on back order.  I considered ordering the Mag 9.5 - which has 3/4 connection and is rated at 810 GPH at 3' and 950 at 1' and simply throttle it back with a ball valve which I already have in place.

I originally chose the 7.5 as it runs on 60 watts vs 93 and I can get it for $20 cheaper.

Any opinions on this?  I could have ordered a Rio 2500+ for about $15 cheaper than the Mag, but decided to go with the better brand this time around.

I know people have been viewing this, but I guess lack of responses is also an indicator.  Seems like it's not a big deal either way.  I'll just go with the Mag 7.
