The lime or kalk will help maintain alk. and cal plus raise the ph some.

I just use tap water, and honestly it works great. I'm not sure which magical elements are in there, but it keeps my tank happy

Just for the record, I'm pretty sure Adam Blundell told me to use tap water... so I blame him partially for my crappy-ness when it comes to being a reefer.

Be sure you read up on Kalkwasser for topoff. It can be used in any strength. I have used it full strength at night (to help keep pH from dropping too far) in a coral farming setup where it didn't even come close to giving the system all the Alk and Ca it needed. I also add tapwater from time to time. It replenishes Iron and many other elements including Alk and Ca that gets removed by the RO unit.
