They generally are not reef safe, however everyone has different experiences. They will definitely nip/eat clam mantles, LPS corals, and probably most softies. I have heard hit and miss accounts of them eating SPS. If you are looking for reef safe angels there are a few species that come highly recommended as completely reef safe: Bellus Angel, Japanese Swallowtail, Lamark's Angel, Wanatabei Angel, Goldflake Angel, and possibly a couple I forgot. Most dwarf angels are accepted to be reef safe, but again there are instances where they choose to eat coral, the best looking dwarfs IMO: Potter's Angel, Coral Beauty, (True)Lemon Peel, Golden Angel, Pygmy Angel. Regal Angels are really cool but also like to nip LPS and Clam Mantles, they are also notorious for not eating in captivity so it can be difficult to find one that will do well in captivity.

Most angels change quite a bit from their juvenile stage, most wrasses are that way as well.

Reef Safe is a relative term and often refers to whether a fish will eat shrimp, or coral, or it's tankmates.
To get the right answers, we need to ask the right questions:
1- What does an Emperor Angelfish eatQuestion
2- Is there any of that food in the tankQuestion
3- If there is little of that food, what will it turn to eating as a replacementQuestion
4- If there is lots of that food, will it be enoughQuestion

I assume that your tank is fairly new, probably less than a year. In that case we can assume there is little or no Emperor Angelfish food growing in it, so questions #1 and #3 are the right questions.

Here is a pic from a tank for which the answer to #4 was "Yes" because the tank was 5 years old with plenty of algae, sponge and other Queen Angelfish food growing in it. This pic was taken when the Queen had been there for 2 years and had doubled in size.Smile
