So I have had some grape calurpa in the tank for a month or so and it has been fine. It has grown a bunch. A couple days ago I noticed of the vines is turning white in one spot and all the grapes on that vine are white also. I didnt think much of it and havent really seen anything bad come of it. My parameters are still ok. I have read a bunch about calurpa going sexual. I dont even know what that means but it sounds bad. Do you think that is what is happening here? Should I leave it in or take it out?

If it is just a small patch I would probably remove just that section and watch it. If it starts to spread further, then I would removing all of the affected spots and then some.

You mean like growing on the sides? if they look like clear white on the sides it means it growing, other wise pull out the white patch to avoid any more from going sexual

all the true facts. If you haven't found out by now, there is a lot of
misinformation on the www. What you read, evidently did not tell you how
Calerpa looks as it grows and matures. Caulerpa strands grow about 1-3 feet long. The old end of the strand turns white and dissolves away. The old end that melts away can be up to a foot long.
You will know when Caulerpa goes sexual because the entire bunch will go clear and melt away in a day. The other thing you did not discover in your reading is how often Caulerpa goes sexual. It happens very infrequently. The reason it happens is because it ran out of food. This causes it to create gametes(seeds) that in the wild the currents will take to other places where there is more food.
If you keep half Chaetomorpha and half a variety of different types of Caulerpa, you will never have a problem.
You can take it out of the bag and put it back in the tank. It's okay. If you don't want to put it back in, I'd love it. Please call me at the number below.
