Hi everyone.  I have been out of the hobby for a few years now since my move from SLC to SE ID.  I am looking to get back into the hobby and am trying to put together a custom tank.  I'll be in SLC on Thursday or Friday and was wondering if there is a good supplier of starphire glass that I can get cut to size while I'm down there.  Any help would be appreciated.

P.S.  I'm also looking for some acrylic to create the overflow and partitions in a DIY sump.

Kellys stain glass in Ogden has 1/2" starphire they are selling pretty cheap, they are trying to cut there inventory on it I would give them a call. Also for acrylic go to Delvies Plastics in SLC, they are a lot cheaper then Regional for the same brand of acrylic.

Everytime I call to get pricing from them they are double the price on cell cast then everybody else I do business with. Are you pricing extruded or cast? Cast is a bit more then extruded

For scraps, it may be cheaper to go to regional... they sell it by the pound and I think delvies still charges a foot price. In fact I have been into regional and if I am just getting 1 or 2 pieces they just say, take it... but if you are looking for sheets, tyler knows best, delvies

Yes, if you are buying from their scrap bin then yeah it is cheaper. You are buying it by the scrape price. Also getting it from their bin you don't know if its cast or extruded. Extruded does not machine well. I have done tons of pricing from every vendor here in Utah and I can tell you who has the best pricing. I buy all my sheets form Professional Plastics in Ogden, they beat everybody on price for full sheets. Delvies has great prices on smaller pieces, not everybody does that so it is nice when you only need a small piece. Delvies also has the best pricing on acrylic tube (cast and extruded) then anybody on the internet that I have found.Big smile

TCFab has definitely bought his fair share of acrylic..... Also he is not the only person that has said that regional is more expensive.

tcfab - Thanks for the heads up.  I just ordered the glass cut for a 36X24X18 tank.  I'm looking forward to having the tank build up and running.

Did you have them flat polish the edges? They do amazing work.

I did have them do a flat polish on the edges.  I made a stupid mistake though in accidentily purchasing all panels as starphire rather than just the front and sides.

Next question -  does anyone know where I can get a 1-1/2" and 1-3/4" holes drilled while I'm down in SLC?  tcfab - do you know if Kelly's will drill the holes?

Also, what size and type of acrylic would everyone recommend for overflows and baffles in the sump?  I was just going to do the 1/4" black acrylic for the overflow and 1/4" clear for the baffles in the sump.

Kelly's is actually selling their starphire for the same as their normal glass right now, so I would have gotten all starphire too You will love their work it is top notch. I am not sure if they drill holes or not, you might want to ask them. 1/4" acrylic will be fine for your overflow and sump baffles.
