So I have a cadlights 32g tank it is about 22" long and about 17" high. I was thinking it would look cool to do some LED's over it. I like the PAR38 bulbs as they can go in any fixture I would like. What I am wondering is if 2 would be enough?

Also I am wondering if anyone has used these:

Or if I should just stick with the Evil PAR38's

I have a couple of the par38 if you'd like to see them, or take them home and hang them up to get an idea of how they'll look. I'm not really close to you but if you happen to be coming up this way just let me know.

Jackie I saw those same ones and I was wondering the same thing. I dont see why they wouldn't work. Plus save you 60 bucks too! I actually am going this week and getting some at Home Depot they have 30* optics on them from what I have read and are dirt cheap! Plus Home Depot are the kings of returns!

Due to the new Cree Neutral Whites that are out I would suggest doing a DIY Fixture, I see a lot more reds and a better color balance with my new fixture vs the cool whites that I used last time around.

If you want to do PAR38 bulbs, I would go with either the RapidLED, or Evil66 (Nanocustoms) PAR38 Bulbs. I haven't seen the Ecoxotic, but the Nanocustoms bulbs are tried and true.

I have 24 LED's over my RedSeaMax and I absolutely love the color combo, you are more than welcome to come check it out anytime.

Also, the biggest thing that makes me hesitant about the bulbs you posted is that they are 1w LED's. Those would work over a fish only tank, but will be about as effective as the newer marineland led fixtures...

Ah thank you for pointing that out Matt I didn't notice they were 1w! I only noticed they were able to dim individual colors.
Ok what does the PAR38 mean then? I am confused I thought that was the amount of PAR you would get out of the light bulb?

PAR is an outside rated light bulb - R is an indoor rated light bulb.

The number after PAR refers to the diameter of the bulb. PAR30 would have a 3-3/4" diameter.

I forgot to say Par is 38 to get the diameter you divide by 8 so par38 is 4.75.

Jackie, I think 2 would work over a tank that size, they just need to be high enough above the tank to get the spread you want.  Here is a link to a 12 gallon that I ran a nano-tuners par38 over. http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=41486 - http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=41486   You can at least get an idea of the light spread.  This was a 20k version with 60 degree optics.

Ok cool. Did you get good growth? I have wanted to do LED for awhile but the cost just kills me so two of the par38 wouldn't be too bad.
Thanks guys:)

HMM was the one enough for your tank? Is that all you were using? How did everything grow? And last why are you not using it anymore?

Jackie,

I was finding that I wanted to grow more coral and SPS at different location beside down the middle when the beam focus is at.  It grew my rose anemone like crazy. At the moment I have the Revolution LED fixture on it. I'm in between unitl I get my new light fixture.

So I have 2 light running it would be great to cover most off all the spot of my 25 nano. I liked this fixture more then other because of quality of heat sink on it.

I'm not worried about sps the only sps I have is a green birdsnest. So I mostly have zoas and some LPS. Just not sure the one would do it?

Ok I am a bit worried that one won't cut it What do you think? I am keeping zoas, wellso, blastos, pagoda cup, duncan, bubble coral I think that is it.

I am debating between yours and the one Ryan has for sale. If I got Ryans I will need another but if I got yours another one is $200 and I know I wont spend that on another one.

Yes I realize that what I am saying is if I got yours and I needed another one like it I would have to spend $200 for another one and I know I won't want to do that:)

What are you guys using to hang the bulbs over your tank?  I know it takes a standard socket, but I'm trying to get ideas.  I really like the look Kellerexpress has.
