My culture is doing well. It was started with about 10ml of the phycopure phyto, not a pure strain culture. I am about to split it out to two other bottles and use the remainder of the first.

Suzy, I received three types from Mark yesterday (1/10/05) and have not started growing them yet.  I need to get a heater, some tubing, and another light fixture.  Hopefully I will get that stuff tomorrow at Wal*Mart.  Then I'll let you know.  I hear yours is doing well!

The phytoplankton can be grown at room temperature, so you do not need a heater.

Rstruh's setup is in his garage I believe that may be why he's looking at a heater. I believe the pop bottle cultures sit in heated water in a tub

Rstruh, you may want to consider culturing Tetraselmis tetrathele which does very well down to about 40 degrees F. It can also be grown in very low salinities (5ppt).  Nannochloropsis does best when kept above 70 degrees. Both Isochrysis and Chaeotoceros must have warm culture water to do well (~75F)

BTW Mark, do you know what time it is!?!?!?

I put my BBS hatchers on a heating pad. It heats 'em enough to
hatch a little faster.

I wonder if that's why my T isochrysis won't take off. It's
supposed to be green, right? Mine is soooo yellow.

I do have a strong batch of the chaeto stuff, and the red is
starting to grow......

With the setup I have (Mark explained it quite well) I can maintain between 70 & 80 degrees F quite easily.  If my phyto is in the house I tend to have more coughing spells and sneezing, etc.  I may be allergic to it in the house.  It does not bother me in the garage though!  Good to know about the Tetraselmis tetrathele though.

Thanks Adam!
