Hey! I took my family to the Living Planet Aquarium yesterday. One of their reef tanks was home to a very bright purple anemone that looked like a tube anemone. My wife and I loved how it looked. Can anyone verify if it is a tube anemone, and if so, are they easy to keep in a reef and where would I find one? I've heard that they might wander a bit. Anyone seen it? ------------- Educate. | I've seen them at Pet Factory and Pets and such for $29. Both were white, you'd probably pay more for the bright colors. I don't know how to keep them but I don't think this type of anemone would move in the tank as they live entirly in a tube of heavy calcium. |

| I've seen bright pink ones at The Aquarium. As I remember, they don't move a whole lot. But are very aggresive. Will eat small fish. I can't remember the price though. Sorry. I'd go talk to them at The Aquarium and see if they can get the purple ones, or just pink. |

Tube anemones (cerianthus) can be very aggressive and have very long tentacles. They will eat whatever they can catch. That being said, I've got a small pink / orange that I've has for quite some time now. I've never had any problems with it eating anything. IMO, they are very hardy and interesting - but they will take up a lot of space when they grow larger. |

As for Hawkfish. They are not Damsel's. I guess they are similar in size to a damsel and sort of similar in shape, but that's about as far as it goes. I think Hawkfish are very cool. Especially the Flame Hawkfish. They have no swim bladder and therefore swim from ledge to ledge. They don't stay in open water very long. They look really cool perched on a coral or a rock ledge. Their faces seem to show a lot of personality, but some people think thier eyes look buggy. The major drawback to Hawkfish is that they eat invertebrates. Especially shrimp. A friend of mine has a Flame Hawk that lives in the same tank as a Pistol Shrimp and has for a number of years, but all Peppermints she has put in there have become the Hawk's dinner. Connie has a Flame Hawk and a really cool Tube Anemone. She would be a good person to ask about them and about where she got the Anemone. Her Hawkfish will even perch in her hand and eat. Pretty Cool. One more thing I just thought of. Connie says she has lost several Green Chromis to the Tube Anemone and has also rescued her Purple Tang from it's clutches once. |
