Thinking about instead of getting a heater the right size for my 300 gallon tank, just getting a combination heater/chiller that is big enough for my 300 gallon tank and the 97 gallon sump. Looking for a couple of things.
1. Reliabilty - recommendations on whose to look at and whose to avoid.
2. Power - prefer a smaller amp draw, but has to be 110 volt, NO 220v
3. do not care if it has a pickup tube and the exchanger inside the unit, or the heat exchanger(s) drop in the sump.
4. I don't want the most expensive coolest one out there, I want best bang for the buck and something I can plug up, set and forget.
So I am open to suggestions. THanks

What type of pumps and lights are you planning on using ? with a tank that size you might be able to let the heat from your pumps do most of the heating then run a small heater and in the summer a few small fans for cooling . Just my o2 .

I don't know very much about chillers, but I just got one. It does not have a built in heater. It has a power outlet to plug in a standard aquarium heater. When the temp drops, it turns on the power outlet.
